Is the kit compatible with standard 12V wiring?
Absolutely. The Whale Tail Central Locking Kit is engineered to integrate seamlessly with standard 12V vehicle systems. Wired separately to your cars existing central locking with its own programmed key fob and communicator.
What happens during a battery or power failure?
Reliability is non-negotiable. Every unit features a heavy-duty manual key override beneath the recessed handle. If your 12V system fails or your battery dies, you can still access your tools and gear manually with the provided keys.
Does it support multi-point locking systems?
Yes. The Whale Tail handle is designed for maximum versatility. The rear mounting bracket is compatible with 1, 2, or 3-point locking rod configurations, making it the perfect upgrade for custom 4x4 canopies and utility toolboxes.
How does it handle off-road conditions and grime?
Built for the bush. The unit features a black powder-coated steel body and an integrated compression seal. This setup acts as a barrier against water, dust, and corrosive road grime, keeping your locking mechanism operational in extreme environments.
How many locks can i run off the same communicator?
You can run as many locks as you want on the 1 communicator. No need for extra relays or more power, the communicator is built to handle and spread the load.
do i need an auto electrician to install my system?
A confident DIYer can usually handle it, but since every vehicle's central locking wiring differs slightly, we recommend a qualified auto electrician for the hookup, it keeps your vehicle's warranty intact and gets it wired right first go.
how easy is the install?
Incredibly easy! With everything comming pre-colour coded, all you have to do is match the eyelets to their designated power supply and you're ready to use the actuator! If its still a bit confusing, follow the supplied 'cheat sheet' which shows you all the wire allocations.
how many key fobs can connect to the communicator?
Up to 2 key fobs can be connected to the 1 communicator. If you want more key fobs then multiple communicators must be added to the system.
